In February 2005, 34-year-old Lisa Underwood who was seven months pregnant, along with her 7-year-old son, Jayden, were reported missing after she failed to show up at her baby shower. The investigation into their disappearance would reveal a brutal crime fueled by jealousy, passion, and fear of exposure. Lisa’s then-boyfriend, Stephen Barbee, would be arrested, tried, convicted of murder and sentenced to death. According to the New York Post, Stephen had initially confessed to the shocking slayings but later recanted his admission, saying the confession was coerced and insisting he only helped co-defendant and business partner Ronald Royce Dodd hide the bodies after Lisa and her son Jayden were killed. Stephen Barbee would maintain his innocence even to the time of his execution. So, was this a heinous crime committed by a sinister mind or was an innocent man coerced into giving a false confession and wrongfully executed?
