In 1996 the teen slasher film Scream hit the big screen and would later become a mega franchise. But did you know that the highly popular movie was inspired by actual events? Screenwriter Kevin Williamson was inspired to write the movie script about a knife-wielding killer after he had watched a documentary about the Gainesville Murders, in which Danny Rolling a.k.a. the Gainesville Ripper, murdered five University of Florida students over the course of four days. The victims had been fatally stabbed, and, in some cases, raped and mutilated, their bodies posed in sexual positions, and one was even found decapitated So, why did Danny Rolling go on a killing spree that would terrify the whole nation and was he born a sinister killer or made into one?
